The Kadens Kloset Network

What is the Kadens Kloset Network?

Kadens Kloset is more than just your local Kadens Kloset site and far more than just a community closet!

We believe that to effectively support children and their families, it is imperative to take a full gambit approach addressing physical, practical and emotional needs.

Through our network of Directors, Coordinators, Partners, Partner Organizations and Businesses, Volunteers and the wide reach of our many Kadens Kloset communities and projects, we can offer children and their families variety of essential services and support!

Imagine a community where children are not only provided with clothing and toiletries but also birthday celebrations, meals in their freezers, gifts and filled stockings at Christmastime, ongoing classes and education for caregivers, immediate opportunity to request outside of the box needs like furnishing a first apartment or a trip to the grocery store...imagine what we can do when we all network together to provide WHOLE and COMPLETE support for children in need and the families caring for them.

This is the Kadens Kloset Network!! Whether you are a volunteer, donor, or recipiant, WE ARE SO HAPPY YOU ARE HERE! We can't wait to plug you in to our village of kind, caring and encouraging difference makers!

Cakes that Care:

Kristin Simmer is the visionary and Kadens Kloset Coordinator behind this new resource currently available within the Cedar Valley (with hopes to expand to more of our KK communities!).

Kristin partners with local bakeries and bakers to help provide birthday and adoption day cakes for kids in foster care. Cakes that Care has expanded to help provide gifts and more for children on special days during their foster and adoptive journey. First Night Bags:

Kadens Kloset ‘First Night Bags’ are a luggage item filled with immediate necessities for children and teens entering into Foster Care.
Often, the first night is the hardest for a foster child. The child does not know where they will be sleeping and often times arrives at their new foster placement with only the clothes on their back. Many times, the child doesn’t receive any other items (if they get any at all) until after the first 24- 48 hours. This leaves children without bare essentials.

With this heartbreaking issue in mind, Kadens Kloset developed an emergency kit called "First Night Bags". Kadens Kloset ‘First Night Bags’ are a luggage item filled with immediate necessities for children and teens entering into Foster Care. Children receiving one of our Kadens Kloset bags will have all of the essential items they will need to get through the next 24-48 hours, including a comfort item.

In order to continually be able to provide KK First Night Bags, we hope to encourage our communities, churches, local organizations and area businesses to engage in “drives” to help support, collect and provide the materials and items for our bags. A Kadens Kloset representative can help spearhead donation drives, speak at donation drive events, help participants understand the need for this resource, and help with fundraising ideas! Organizations are also encouraged to make and pack their own First Night Bags which can be donated to Kadens Kloset who will distribute them to family service providers in the area.

Age Out Boxes:

A Kadens Kloset Age Out Box is a home warming box filled with home goods and necessities for young adults aging out of the Foster Care System.

Often, these “kids” simply do not have the support system or the family unit in place to help them as they transition into independent living, and this usually occurs at a young age. With our age out boxes, we can help set these young adults up with some of the more essential items they will need to live independently.

Boxes will be packed and distributed to area social workers who will ensure that Young Adults in their jurisdiction receive a box upon their aging out of Foster Care, or moving into their independent living situation. In order to continually be able to provide KK Age Out Boxes, we hope to encourage our communities, churches, local organizations and area businesses to engage in “drives” to help support, collect and provide the materials and items for our boxes.

Organizations are also encouraged to make and pack their own Age Out Boxes, which can be donated to Kadens Kloset who will distribute them to family service providers in the area.

Kadens Kloset #100 Pounds Project:

At Kadens Kloset, we often get asked "what do you do with your overflow?". This is a great question, and something that we have been working on since opening our Klosets with the blessing of so many amazing donations from our community! We have been able to supply exchange students, send a suitcase of infant needs to Jamaica, supply area shelters and pregnancy centers, open our Klosets for open shopping days, and donate some "overflow" on to other great area organizations and causes!

We have been able to send 100's of pounds of our "overflow" shoes and clothing to Zimbabwe, Africa! These items were sent to an organization that rescues women with children from the sex trade industry. These women have been abandoned by their families and have no support within their communities and villages. By simply donating our "overflow", we have been able to make a drastic difference for these vulnerable young families by providing the women with the necessities they need to have a dignified source of economic stability.

Kadens Kloset has also sent items through the #100 Pounds Project to Latvia, Liberia, Jamaica, Haiti and Mexico.

Kadens Kloset continues to send more donations of our "overflow" to communities and villages all over the World!!
